Peace in Park | Community Empowerment and Familiy Unity

In an effort to reduce crime and broaden relations between public safety officials and community members, "Peace in the Park" was created to provide neighborhoods with the space to enjoy family-friendly activities and build unity through cherishable moments. As the use of drugs, gang-related activities, and violence began to overtake neighborhood parks, families became distant, untrusting, and fearful of public spaces meant to foster tranquility and a sense of belonging. In time, these attributes become unfortunate hallmarks of already underserved, underinvested, and disenfranchised communities struggling to maintain the necessary components to foster social-economic mobility.

However, as progress was made to humanely and restoratively address substance abuse, juvenile delinquency, and mental health issues, it was also time to proactively "take back the park" from malicious and harmful elements within the community to restore a space of peace, unity, and empowerment. Through a combined effort of the San Diego Police Department, the City of San Diego Parks & Recreation Department, community advocates, local businesses, and grassroot organizations, "Peace in the Park" was established to not only bring attention to community safety but to also bring critical medical, educational, financial, mental health, employment, and social services directly to families.

Between rock climbing, laser tag, holiday celebrations, food, and resources, we're on a mission to continue to bring peace and safety to our parks and to provide families with the ability to enjoy wholesome fun with neighbors and friends.
