(CLO) Community Learning Opportunity

Expanded Learning Opportunities explores craftsmanship and entrepreneurship by presenting valuable teaching methods for interpersonal development with successful entrepreneurs and artists from the community. These ELOs engage youth in a non-traditional venue that focuses on community empowerment through artistry, craft making, and other technical, automotive, or choreographic opportunities.

Youth are meant to engage in an open and transparent manner to eliminate—or at least restrict—formalities inherent in specific learning methodologies that minimize opportunities for enhanced learning. These explorations include working with local clothing entrepreneurs, graffiti artists, low-rider car clubs, photographers, muralists, DJs, and spoken word artists.

Youth learn to capitalize on and enhance skills, abilities, and interests to positively impact their community with the guidance of professionals that they identify with and connect with.

Skills and traits explored: discipline, responsibility, dedication, stress relief, creativity, passion, self-care, mental health, focus building, and entrepreneurship.
