(SEL) Social-emotional Learning

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) workshops and groups are designed to equip youth with the skills and tools necessary to maintain healthy relationships, have a positive sense of self, and set ambitious goals for their futures.

Mentors and facilitators establish a safe place to discuss topics and situations that may be hindering their ability to successfully navigate their day-to-day lives. With an array of different subtopics such as teen dating violence, weight and body image positivity, managing anxiety, and conflict resolution, youth here from lived experience mentors discuss how some of these issues grew to become reasons for irrepressible, unhealthy, and criminal behaviors. Groups can be conducted with a range of different activities to help youth grasp the topics discussed.

A specialized group for empowering teen girls was formed to face challenges such as cyberbullying, social networking, binge drinking, marijuana use, the stigma of mental health, and to promote self-care and healthy decision-making.
